About The Picofly Mod

Picofly is a modchip that works on all variants of the Switch (not Switch 2)  and does not need a "blank" device to start from.

The Picofly modchip uses a tiny controller called a Raspberry Pi.  The controller convinces the Switch to:

  1. Make a copy of the Switch's OS and all your internal data, including saves and downloaded games
  2. Show a custom menu when you power your device on
  3. Reboot into "OFW" mode where everything is the same as it was out of the box... or...
  4. Reboot into "CFW" mode where everything is still as you left it but now you can do way, way more things

OFW vs CFW

  • OFW refers to the Switch's own circuitry running the stock experience with absolutely no changes. (Official Firmware)

  • CFW refers to an exact duplicate of the OFW running on your microSD card, modified and unlocked by the Raspberry Pi controller doing it's thing. (Custom Firmware)

You have the option every power on to choose OFW or CFW.

  • If you choose OFW, the mod shuts off, the device reboots, and your experience is 100% stock.

  • If you choose CFW (referred to as emuMMC by many), your device is modded and hidden from official servers. You can still go online on unofficial servers.

Is it safe?

God yes. This mod is simply the best thing we could have gotten.  Compared to nearly every other modding scene (PS, XB, DC, GC) this mod is a nearly perfect one stop solution and is stupid powerful.

You should absolutely have FOMO, everyone's getting this done!

The only danger comes from soldering and modifying the thin and delicate circuit board. The points are tiny, there's often grinding and dangerous fumes. Spicy pillows are possible.

Sagebrush Repair has over 16 years experience leveling our microsoldering skill, so good job finding us.

Uh huh, sure, and will I get banned?

Do not play illegitimate content on OFW.

The goal of this mod is to allow arbitrary code to be run.  Run your code my dear, but don't install anything to OFW you wouldn't want your mother seeing.

That said, for some people, there is no need to ever load the OFW again.  Please consider being one of those people.

For some people, the only reason to open OFW is to play a brand new cartridge with a day zero update, and you want to play it today. That is 100% fine and 100% safe as long as you don't install anything illegitimate to the OFW.

To spell it out specifically:  Do not run any homebrew if you see it in OFW. You should not see homebrew on the OFW unless you mess around with your mod's settings.
